Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is a scheme of the UGC and CSIR to provide opportunities to NET-JRF qualified candidates for the advanced studies and doing research through M.Phil/Ph.D. Degrees. 

The selection process for JRF is determined by the concerned university/college/institution recognized under Sec. 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act. and the researcher is provided fellowship for two years in JRF scheme and the research work is evaluated by subject experts. After the satisfaction of the evaluated research work, this scheme is extended for next three years in SRF scheme. If the work in not satisfactory, an extra year is provided to the researcher for the improvement of the research work and after one year the research work is evaluated again and on satisfactory performance next two years are provided in SRF scheme. After five years, no extension is provided to the researcher.

Time to time fellowship amount is increased by the UGC. Besides this, HRA and leaves are also provided to the JRF and SRF designated person.
